ICCRC (Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council) hosted a joint virtual meet on 25th October 2021 between Government of Punjab and ICCRC. Meeting was chaired by Dr. Sandeep Singh Kaura, Adviser to Govt of Punjab (Skill Development and Technical Education) Government of Punjab and Mr. Michael Huynh, Director of Professional Conduct, ICCRC and attended by officers of Foreign Study and Employment Cell, Department of Employment Generation, Govt of Punjab and 200 RCICs(Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants). . It was a good initiative to strengthen anti-fraud initiative in the Immigration and International Student Recruitment Sectors, to support impoverished students with scholarships, to develop better working partnerships with Canada Federal and provincial Governments with Government of Punjab, to resolve difficulties faced by perspective student in identifying licensed, authorized and fake/fraudulent agents in Punjab and to resolve the challenges faced by RCICs to get established in Punjab.
Punjab is the top source of International students to Canada but worst effected due to frauds by unscrupulous sub agents. These sub agents recruit International students through unethical platforms and fake agencies claiming to have direct agreement with Canadian Colleges /Universities and have changed the International Student Recruitment to International Student Trafficking. Some fraudulent subagents even provide package services costing 20,000 to 40,000$ for Study Visa pathway to Canada and include fake education documents, work experiences, bank statements as shared by RCICs in the meeting. Some other observations include “ subagents even facilitate Immigration Marriages with current International Students in Canada and these advertisements are openly posted in daily Newspapers of Punjab”
Punjab Govt. in collaboration with ICCRC will take a tough stand to route out International Students trafficking and curb the immigration frauds by stopping International Sub Agent Student Recruitment system by setting up effective regulatory framework in Punjab .
